The Bridge System

The Bridge System begins with the defining of terms: what makes a beginner speaker? How about an intermediate student? What is fluency? Our system is based off of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), which is an internationally recognized standard for language proficiency. In this standard, proficiency is separated into three levels: A (beginner), B (intermediate), and C (advanced). These levels are further divided into halves, such as A1 and A2. This organization is vital, as each level builds on the previous one.

Building a Bridge
Our team at Puente firmly believes that language is a bridge that joins people across cultures. In order for that bridge to reach its full potential, it must be bi-directional. Here at Puente, we embody the Bridge Mentality by first requiring all instructors to achieve a B1 or higher Spanish certification. Familiarity with students' native language allows instructors to approach teaching with the context necessary to be effective. In addition to their B1 certification, all instructors participate in our Cultural Exchange training, a weekly course on Latin American cultural and linguistic habits. This knowledge is vital to creating the well-rounded instructors Puente is known for.
A Tailored Approach
At Puente English Academy, you're more than just a number. Detailed notes are taken on each student in order to best understand specific needs. Our classes are small (a maximum of just 5 students!) which enables our instructors to focus on each student individually. Every Bronze, Silver, or Gold subscriber are invited to our exclusive study halls, where a Team Member will be on hand for questions and guidance. Gold members meet with a personal mentor weekly to ensure results.
How it works
Lesson 0: Placement
Students start the Bridge System by taking our introductory class called Lesson 0. This free lesson is one hour long, and it is required for all PEA students. In this class, a team member will meet with a student one-on-one virtually. After the assessment, the student will be placed in one of six levels (for example, A2). The student will receive a pass or fail for each topic in their placement level.
Lesson 1: ABCs
Now that the student knows which topics they need to work on for their skill level, they can focus on those, either through our Bridge System Workbook (coming soon!) or in one of our many classes offered daily.
Next Steps
Internal vs External Certificates
In order to progress to the next set of classes, students must pass one of our internal Bridge Mastery exams. For example, if an A1 student feels that they have mastered the A1 topics, they may take the A1 Mastery Exam. A 90% or higher is required. All of our Mastery Exams test students on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, based on CEFR standards.
Some students need specific certifications, such as the Cambridge English Exams, IELTS, etc. While we don't offer those external certificates in-house, we do have study halls for all Bronze, Silver, and Gold members.
